Best Conversational Commerce Platforms for DTC Brands (2026)

A DTC brand gets two kinds of chat: shoppers asking about an order and shoppers asking whether a product fits. Some platforms were built for the first kind and added selling later, and others started with selling. This page compares eight, sorted by that difference.

Disclosure: Moshi wrote this comparison and lists itself. Moshi is a sales-first tool for Meta ad traffic. Where another tool fits your case better, we say so.

How we compared

We read each vendor’s own site, docs, help center, or Shopify App Store listing. We did not test the products. We left out prices because they change.

  • Sales impact: does the tool recommend products and move the shopper toward checkout?
  • Lead qualification: does it ask questions and score intent before a person steps in?
  • Cart recovery: does it follow up on abandoned carts or checkouts?
  • Sales-first or support-first: what did the vendor build first, and what does its own copy lead with?

A feature missing from a vendor page may still exist. Confirm before you buy.

Support-first platforms with a sales role

Gorgias

Gorgias is a helpdesk with an AI Agent. The agent has two roles in one: support for returns, tracking, and cancellations, and a Shopping Assistant for pre-purchase questions. Gorgias docs say the Shopping Assistant recommends products and scores buying intent in three stages: discovery, interested, and ready to buy. It can create single-use Shopify discount codes.

The AI Agent works on email, chat, SMS, Instagram DMs, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Gorgias announced general availability on social channels on 2026-10-14. Its docs state limits: social replies cover DMs only, not comments, and replies follow Meta’s 24-hour window. The docs we read do not describe outbound cart recovery, which is our reading.

Best for: Shopify brands that want one tool for the helpdesk and for pre- and post-purchase chat.

Tidio

Tidio is a live chat and helpdesk product. Its Lyro AI agent answers support questions. On Shopify, Lyro shows product cards with an add-to-cart button, and it is stock-aware. Tidio’s help center lists the widget, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and email tickets as places recommendations appear. Tidio says Lyro can start conversations, qualify leads, and recover dropped checkouts. It also offers abandoned-cart flows.

Tidio frames Lyro as a customer service agent that answers from your content. We found no checkout link sent in chat. Cart add happens inside the widget.

Best for: small and mid-size Shopify stores that want web chat and a helpdesk with AI.

respond.io

respond.io is a multichannel team inbox with AI Agents for qualification, product recommendations, routing, and booking. It targets mid-market B2C teams with 500 or more conversations a month. Agents can take a reception, sales, or support role, and handoff follows role, online status, or workload.

Its Shopify page states there is no native Shopify integration. The integration is the website chat widget. Orders and abandoned-cart events need Zapier, Make, or n8n. Its blog says cart reminders run through Workflows and broadcasts.

Best for: higher-volume B2C teams that sell by chat or by call, such as services and bookings. Shopify is a secondary fit.

Sales-first platforms for Shopify

Zipchat

Zipchat is a Shopify-focused AI agent for the site, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, Messenger, and email. The Shopify App Store listing describes sales and support in one agent, with actions such as order tracking, discounts, returns, recommendations, and upsells. Its WhatsApp cart recovery sends a checkout link and an optional discount code after a delay you set. It skips customers who already ordered. Click-to-WhatsApp ads open conversations the AI qualifies.

Zipchat’s page says automated cart recovery is for Shopify, and other stores need a custom skill. WhatsApp recovery needs Meta template approval, which the vendor says takes 1 to 3 days.

Best for: Shopify brands with ad traffic that want WhatsApp cart recovery.

Rep AI

Rep AI is a Shopify-first AI sales assistant. The vendor says it watches shopper behavior such as hesitation and exit risk, then opens a conversation. It shows checkout-ready product cards, lets shoppers change quantity in the chat, and can apply a coupon. It lists web chat, email, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Its Shopify listing names cart recovery, cross-sell, and handoff to live chat with a summary.

The Shopify listing shows Rep AI working alongside Gorgias and Zendesk. Cart add happens inside the chat. We found no checkout link sent in a DM.

Best for: Shopify stores that want a proactive on-site sales assistant.

Spur

Spur is a WhatsApp, Instagram, and website chat platform for Shopify and D2C brands. It has a built-in WhatsApp abandoned-checkout flow with three timed messages and a one-time discount code. Another flow replies to a WhatsApp cart with a button to Shopify checkout. It also offers Instagram comment-to-DM automation. In May 2026 it released a beta AI agent that acts on store data, such as orders, products, and pre-filled checkout links.

Spur’s own pages note limits: no SMS, no full CRM, and an AI agent still in beta. The checkout flow uses the default Shopify checkout.

Best for: Shopify and D2C brands that run WhatsApp and Instagram marketing and want automation with AI on top.

Moshi

Moshi is an AI sales agent that starts from the Meta ad. The ad’s call to action becomes “Send Message,” so the click opens an Instagram DM. The agent reads live products from the Shopify catalog, handles objections, and sends the shopper to checkout. It replies in under 8 seconds. It follows up on abandoned carts in the inbox and can continue in iMessage and RCS past Meta’s 24-hour window. It tags revenue from ad click to DM to purchase.

Moshi is not a helpdesk. It does not run a ticket queue. For tickets, use a helpdesk such as Gorgias or Zendesk. Moshi offers a 14-day trial with a card. Talk to the team at moshi.ai/talk.

Best for: DTC brands that spend on Meta ads and want the click to become a sales conversation.

Adjacent: quizzes

Octane AI

Octane AI is a Shopify quiz and recommendation tool. It builds an AI quiz from your catalog, gives each shopper a results page that explains each pick, and syncs answers to tools such as Klaviyo, Attentive, and Postscript. It is not a chat agent. The current pages show no live chat, DM channel, or checkout link in chat.

Best for: brands that want a guided-selling quiz and zero-party data for email and SMS.

Questions buyers ask

What is a conversational commerce platform?

It is software that sells through chat. Shoppers talk to an AI agent in messaging apps or on the site. The agent answers questions, recommends products, and moves them to checkout.

What are the best Gorgias AI agent alternatives for sales?

Gorgias is a helpdesk that added a sales role. If sales is your main goal, compare tools built for selling, such as Rep AI and Moshi, and Zipchat, which combines sales and support in one agent. Stay with Gorgias if you want one tool for support and sales.

Is a support-first or a sales-first tool better for a DTC brand?

Choose by where your volume is. Support-first tools fit when most chats are order status and returns. Sales-first tools fit when most chats come from ads and product questions. Many brands run both.

Which tools recover abandoned carts?

Per their own pages, Zipchat and Spur send WhatsApp cart recovery messages with a checkout link. Tidio has abandoned-cart flows. Rep AI lists cart recovery on its Shopify listing. Moshi follows up on abandoned carts in the DM inbox.
